Breaking our event down into three blog posts isn’t easy if you ask me, but we’re sure going to try!
This particular blog post is to highlight some of the Community partners, vendors, sponsors, and businesses that make sure Xpand Fest is engaging, locally relevant and unique. We hope that you may come for one of the things found on the poster, or mentioned in one of these blogs- but we truly hope you leave discovering something new and exciting, so why not share some of those things here?!?
Kicking off the day is South Slope Crossfit, who is offering an adaptive workout program (ALL ARE WELCOME) to make sure you can indulge a bit extra the rest of the day! After the workout is over make sure to grab some refreshments in our food court area, leave your kids at our drop-in daycare and take a break in our Mojo Coworking + Skyrunner Lounge.
For anyone who came to Xpand Fest #2, you should remember the cardboard grass growing out of the concrete that was made and brought out by Kids Garden who is a drop-in learning center that will be present at Xpand Fest again this year both for free-play with parents or drop-in care so you can take a minute to yourself while your kids have a blast! Once you pick your kids up, make sure to take them to Slack-Librium, Zed AVL‘s interactive art space, Zapow Gallery (art activities and a cool gallery!) and Twin Leaf Brewery who will have some water play activities.
Something we’ve done since year one is to have a CommUnity Corner (I think it was called the Arts Nonprofit Arcade the first year) where we bring together nonprofits and local businesses with a forward-thinking mission. Art Studio World has been our fiscal sponsor during the 501c3 application for our non-profit (Xpand Your Vision) and has overseen this Community area with creative activities and a beautiful Tree of Life. Other non-profits that will be present there and around the event include, BeLoved Asheville, Citizen’s Climate Lobby, Community Roots, Democracy NC, Dogwood Alliance, Homeward Bound WNC, and more.
Open Hearts Art Center one of our partners is located in the footprint (directly beside the Xpand Stage sponsored by Octopus Garden) of the festival and will have their gallery open to the public with their current exhibit, “Does size matter?“. In that gallery exhibit, the artists of Open Hearts question if size determines the aesthetic worth of art? The artists of Open Hearts Art Center challenge the viewer to explore this long-running debate. Stop in for a great exhibit and maybe a touch of AC.
Other places we know that will be cool (temperature wise and activation wise) include Tasty Beverage that is doing a delicious tasting of Plēb Urban Winery’s amazing wine and Zapow who has Ben’s Tune-Up Sake tasting as well as an art activity!
Phew, tired yet? We are!
Honestly, we would love to be able to highlight every single business, artists, sponsor, etc in this post- but we hope this is enough of a taste to get you excited for NEXT Saturday, June 8, 2019!
Stay tuned for our last blog post on Sustainability coming out next week.
